FOLLOW UP

At the end of your consultation we make a recommendation regarding follow-up skin checks. Timing for this can vary between individuals due to many factors however typically this is;

  • For those aged 20 - 40 years – full dermscopic skin check every two years with skin self examination at least every three months

  • For those aged 40 year or moreannual dermoscopic skin check with skin self examination at least every three months

Normally we will set a recall in our practice system to send you a reminder close to the time of recommended follow-up. This will at least make you have a good look at your skin and remind you to look after it.

The longer it is between checks the more chance there could be a lesion there that could have been picked up earlier. The earlier the diagnosis and treatment the better the outcome.

Common factors that influence this are

  • Family history of melanoma

  • Personal history of any skin cancer
