CRYOSURGERY

Cryosurgery is the targeted destruction of selected lesions with liquid nitrogen, typically delivered via a spray gun.

It’s a relatively quick easy effective process.

Cryosurgery is typically painful but quite manageable by most people. Depending on the intensity of application and individual factors it will make the lesion go red, swell, possibly blister then crust and scab, healing over a period of typically one to three weeks.

In many cases and in particular for benign lesions we aim to err on the side of undertreating the lesion and retreating if required rather than overtreating and a less satisfactory cosmetic outcome.

This is a suitable treatment for many benign lesions such as

  • Actinic keratoses (sun damaged skin)

  • Seborrheic keratoses

  • Skin tags

  • Some lentigines (sun spots)

  • Warts

It can also be a treatment option with some skin cancers such as

  • Selected BCC’s

  • Squamous cell carcimona in situ

This treatment may be combined with some topical creams.
