Our cosmetic medicine specialist Doctor Katie Sleeman is a graduate of Otago School of Medicine (MBChB). Over a number of years she has built a fantastic reputation as a caring and thorough doctor while working as a GP in Redcliffs and as an Urgent Care Doctor in the city centre.
Born in sunny Nelson, Katie moved to Christchurch as a child. After training in London she started her career working as a beauty therapist in Merivale. While in beauty therapy Katie developed an interest in skin health, researching treatments for her clientele who had problems with acne, pigmentation and who were concerned with the effects of ageing (among other things). She soon realised that as a beauty therapist she was limited in how much help she could provide and the idea of studying medicine to become a Doctor was born.
Katie was accepted into Otago University Medical School. While studying she also worked for
Doctor Safari Appearance Medicine in Dunedin under the guidance of Doctor Safari
herself. Following her graduation Doctor Katie spent some time in Ireland with her Irish partner and she also travelled and worked in hospitals in Vietnam and India before returning to New Zealand.
Doctor Katie is now following her dream career in Cosmetic Medicine. She is a training member of The New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine where she is working towards her fellowship. She believes that Cosmetic Medicine is about far more than just looking good. She treats her patients in the same manner she treats her GP patients - with their well-being at the heart of everything she does.
Doctor Katie’s approach is “less is more”. She wants her patients to have the best and most natural results from the least amount of work so that they feel great about themselves inside and out.
When Katie isn’t working she likes to spend her free time with her Irish hubby, their two little girls and their big four legged fur-ball Huey.
